Indian Art News

Jiten & Sumir were at Art Basel again this year with Nature Morte. These are some pictures from their booth at Basel.

They have also showed in Tokyo and Sydney this year. Most interesting is the variety in their work. When I met them a few months ago at their home studio, it was great to see two creative minds exploring possibilities, mediums and narratives. T&T have so many exciting projects that will keep us asking for more.

Actually, who do we judge:The Art Collectors - they spend part of their wealth on the ashes of art making. according to the standard of the Collector the ashes become valuable or not.
The Galleries (in general) - sell an arty Lifestyle including the loose components
The Artist- Happy to fill in the blanks for (the hope of) a chunk of the mentioned wealth. Once it succeeds he or she has a 9 - 5 job
Art Basel- a nice initiative to bring the world together
In short: art = business // business = culture // culture = also war // Indian Art News = equivalent to facebook and will be sold off to Microsoft in a jear. How do I become shareholder??

Hate to say it Deepak but looks like a niche facebook but that doesnt take away from its validity. As long as the discussions and news remain relevant. But here is a suggestion maybe you should whet who joins to keep the valuable, informed niche pure cause you could have a lot of uniformed people join for the heck of it

Visually Appealing!

But not sure abt how the deep is it? or is it Art?! Under the word Contemporary and many other terms are we moving away from sincere Art! Is it all getting down to innovative concept and super visual appeal?! Are we being honest to ourselves?!

Roberto I agree with you on none of us are capable or here judge but we are free to express our sincere views!

Arjun would love to hear more from you?!

Well said Saba. And Arjun too. Its pretty and polished and pleasing. Is the distinction between decoration and art not valid anymore? Or is this a convoluted attempt to say something very profound?

I've always thought it was more Design than Art, but then, Design is also Art!

Not to take away from the 'cutting edge' work these guys are doing - but it is not my idea of enduring art. The pressure to be 'different', 'new', 'exciting' and 'cutting edge' is going to be the ruin of many potentialy great artists...

There is always a fine balance. I have been fortunate to have met T&T on a number of occasions and spend some quality time with them. What I took away from the interaction was very positive. Two intelligent individuals who were using their skill set to raise particular issues using a unique narrative. How each recipient reacts to their works may be different but I am impressed by the fact that people react to their works. I also like the fact they work with different materials and are always trying to challenge themselves.

Actually I knew both the guys when they were graphics designers working in RMG David an advertising firm. I think the gallery that represents them has had a major hand in steering the work as it is in its present form. They were and are very good graphic designers. I suspect if one were to look carefully a lot of smart graphic designers could become artists. But the question is are they creating original work that is trying to say something or are they getting their inspiration from Wallpaper magazine. Suggest you guys go through the last 3 years of that magazine maybe be an eye opner.
