Jiten & Sumir were at Art Basel again this year with Nature Morte. These are some pictures from their booth at Basel.

They have also showed in Tokyo and Sydney this year. Most interesting is the variety in their work. When I met them a few months ago at their home studio, it was great to see two creative minds exploring possibilities, mediums and narratives. T&T have so many exciting projects that will keep us asking for more.

T&T, like all artists, are influenced by the environment around them. They are younger, have a very different training and background to most other artists practicing today and are citizens of a global world. In my opinion their works and what they present is a rendition of their interpretation of themes they are most sensitive to.

Completely. They are very talented. They were as grahic designers and they are as artists but there s something too slick about their productions and not so very original. My guess is that they may not sustain over time.

Arjun, I completely agree with your comment, short and straight!...I was looking for the words till I read yours and also Saba's comment, can't agree more. I,d like to know if this is their real dream world or its just business..

Surely their work feels international, is very polished and great to look at, but I do miss depth in their work. Art depicts the energy of the space and time we live in and it cld be that this a new language which Im not yet trained to understand..I wld like to wait and watch.

I think they will be around for a long time but we will have to wait and see. They are preparing a very interesting work for a forthcoming show at Philips De Pury in London in October. Look forward to that.

It may be useful to look at T & T's work in relation to the growing body of contemporary art from Asia. How do they compare vis a viz someone like Takashi Murakami, whose pop-culture based images straddle commercial design and 'pop' art? If you put the two alongside each other, say, picture them in a two 'man' show in the same gallery. What do you get?

Do their styles contrast or blur into each other? I think artistically they have hints of potential as their work does suggest a level of conceptual thought but right now their long term standing is far from secure as they have not nurtured a distinctive style as of now.

On another note, Murakami too used the connection to propel his prices up to the heavens, along with all manner of merchandising spin-offs. I suspect T & T will sooner or later go down this route.

Look at Aditya Pande's work
He is very talented and is far more conceptual. And also comes from a back ground of graphics

Have you seen their put it on project, i am not a die hard fan of their work.
I think arjun if you dont know about their concepts - you have no right to comment.
sitting there speaking doesnt take much, efforts.
I think you need to see more and be little more open to what is happening around!!

are you a graphic designer or graphic agency.?? sounds like one.

my dear editor,
this is what is plaguing indian art at the moment...........a few influential persons trying to impose and dictate "what is art"................ any serious collector or a lesser mortal like me worth his salt would never ever consider " JUGAL BANDI" IN ART............. IT'S BEST LEFT TO MUSICIANS and of course you only learn by expierience you can't blame their age for it!
for god sake serious art is to be differntiated from lime-light and it's proponents.
what a waste!
:(

Well, interesting comments and some of them are really personal and going over the top, that could be a reason that maybe these guys could never get a work of T &T, which even I dont have. The other category is of artists who are really mediocre themselves, havent really got anywhere in life so why not comment like armchair cricketers, after all we have atleast 1 million people who can advise even Sachin Tendulkar on how he can bat better ! Deepak put some interesting points forth in this presentation and for all of us to see. I had the real pleasure of meeting them and understanding the art they do, their packaging is slick and smart but who says contemporary art has to be look ugly and not pleasing to the eye. I have been a subscriber of Wallpaper for years and they were ranked among the Top 101 designers in the world by that magazine, please google if you havent seen that piece, now why would that magazine rank someone who is copying it among the best in the world. Try and get in to a solo of theirs to understand their art which has gone through the roof in terms of price point but has a deeper meaning on the immigrant punjabi fleeing to the US or consumerism in BoseDK and you will be able to appreciate what they bring on the table. Scores of musuems, Art Basel and international collectors cant be that stupid. They are among the few who have an international market and I would love to acquire a work,Peter Nagy has done a wonderful job of mounting them well but he is also an excellent curator who has done his diligence and works only with the best. And yes, I dont own a work and have no personal agenda but being a collector, know the difference between rubbish and quality. Cheers, to fantastic art. Someone mentioned about Aditya Pande who I feel is also brilliant but still a far way to go from these guys. The lack of appreciation for some guys who are doing spectacular work sometimes surprises me in this market. I really like NS Harsha and again a very thoughtful artist, I picked up a great work at a throwaway price before the Christie's auction when he set that record of over 3 crores, an influential gallery sold me this piece and they felt he was gimmicky by painting on temple tops etc which he did in singapore and thats never good for the market, so much so for expertise on top artists !! now, I am being chased for that work ! I am a big fan of theirs and honestly dont care of what people have to say due to vested interests that they have. Deepak, you run 2 art funds as I read on google and even you love them so please share more on them if possible.Cheers
