Objective
Teaching of Fine Arts in Indian universities and colleges has presumably become more challenging in the recent years. The curriculum design needs the pragmatic approach in order to carry us to the future. What one has understood for the past so many years is either we have strongly pursued the colonial methodology of teaching without much question or engaged in repeating ourselves with the given limits without any attempt to explore. The curriculum development and dissemination of knowledge capital has seemingly taken the back seat in the art educational institutions. There needs to be a balance between the local and the global phenomena while modelling the curriculum. One understands the demand of growing pressure on the art education and practice that has started to bother us recently. The trends in the world have thrown open several issues that directly deserve immediate attention in order to prove the relevance of art education. The pressure is equal on the major institutions and state chapters, in India. We, as responsible academic practitioners, are constantly exploring new ways to reinvigorate our pedagogical approaches in order to keep them both vital and innovative.
The goal of this conference is to facilitate the dynamics of the intellectual and the pragmatic by the experienced teachers of Fine Arts/Art History on art in higher education. This also addresses issues on theory-practice, and the space in-between. The sharing of inspirations, challenges and discoveries, whether in teaching or presenting an art form should be given adequate space in educational curriculum. We are inviting international scholars for participation in order to interact in the context; however, the major focus would remain on the teaching learning in Fine Arts in India, with Orissa as a subject.
Call for Papers
The conference is dedicatedly planned to address the Indian situation in Teaching and Learning in Fine Arts (especially in Colleges and Universities). Therefore, papers are requested from only such scholars who are well versed/ worked in the cited area. Only limited scholars from outside India, strictly on the basis of their proposals, would be selected for the conference. The selection of Indian Scholars would base on the same criteria as mentioned for the international scholars; however, the organisers exercise their liberty to request the participation of few outstanding Indian scholars, who have consistently contributed to the Indian Art education in various capacities.
