CONTEMPORARY a term??
Today Manish Pushkale one of the indian mainline young artist has joined this group and expressed his concern about discussing contemporary term. Whether it's a term or not it's still debatable, but my version is after a long period of time practicing MODERN to describe current art practice, people are using contemporary now a days. Actually the thing is there is no art practice in group so there is no chance of creating any ism. So individual art practice is established from modern art practice. Modern art practice could not inspired the new coming artists with its critical symbolic depictions and when artist comes to work with socio-political, socio-economical topics which tends to connect directly with society on day by day basis, it has called Contemporary Art Practice. This Contemporary Art practice is looking very expressive and understandable to today's art lovers. The current response to visual art is beyond all expectations and future assessments are indicating a new era of Visual Art.
I hope this discussion will bring many more to debate contemporary art practice. Please express your feelings honestly.

Ashok, let me start with JOHN bock's interesting quote 'YOU WON'T FIND IT IN DICTIONARY' and i will continue by going in dictionary to understand this adjective CONTEMPORARY... it says 1.living or ocurring at same time. 2. approximately equal in age. 3. following modern ideas and fashion in style.
Now this contradiction is interesting. John Bock's( who is one of the leading CONTEMPORARY artist from germany) statement is important to me than the generalised dictionary term. Bock's statement is perfect cancellation of prejudice. He is contemporary, but he is not interested in socio-political or socio-economical issues, and it doesnt mean that he is not concerned about all these issues and time.

To my understanding, Contemporary is always associated with the element of Time. It is a term which indicates a specific time in History/period/era. The term is capable of transcending laterally from past to present but needs to be referred and tagged to a particular moment in time.
