Art is fun when the mind stops and the flow begins. When the artist becomes as a child, the fun begins. The fun stops when the adult returns - the judge, the critic, the nay-sayer. The flow is interupted, it's like a curse. Without the flow, without that childlike feeling, one can continue to paint but the heart is not in it, it's like painting by numbers. What do you think?

Totally agree with you! Shared the same thoughts with my two high school students just a few minutes ago before reading your comment. I am an artist and I offer lessons for students ranging from 4 years -adults. It is very interesting and saddening to watch how creating art changes from children to adults.
As a teaching artist, I try to get my students to paint with their heart rather than their mind. Especially with adult students, we paint while talking about everything other than art in class. As an artist, I feel that a line is just a line if it does not have any emotions attached to it. If my painting does not speak to me, it is still incomplete and would be a "painting by numbers" painting.

“If you are beautiful deep within you, only then can the beauty flow from you. Only out of beautiful life, a beautiful painting is born" keep it up do visit www.bhavinshahart.com

One cant deny the process of growing up. It's inevitable not to metamorphose into an adult. But the beauty of that is it throws open various interpretations of life. Some come straight from the heart and the manifestation of that emotion be it sad, happy, fun, humourous, judgemental, critical is so convincing and beautiful that is very enjoyable.

Like Pyne. He has mostly depicted the darkness within in his paintings, very affected by the milieu he lived in. But since that is what he believed in however judgemental he might have been in viewing life it appealed to people because of the stark, naked truth which he felt so strongly in his life.

For me it is important to feel from within, believe in it completely. And not create something because that's the trend. That i feel would be so shortlived!

As always I believe there are no short cuts. Each person is unique and must discover thru his/ her own unique set of experiences as life unfolds ....which lead to the evolution of the artist...these then captured sincerely along the route shall be very meaningful & rewarding.

I go across not side to side. I allow it to recede no wall will it abide. If I beckon it "come hither" the resistance is substantial! It allows only what it can forebear, again side to side. It doesn't understand "stop". Oh yes it has boundaries. Some are plain to see. Others are not so willing to reveal the secrets of their determination. Why are you searching this out as if to understand the simple? Isn't it your role to search something that satisfy you? and what if i say it paintings by numbers, is it that all simple to recognize you??

Well said, if the heart is not there, then i can say it never be a best work, yes just for another number, you right.

the only reason, i think one is justified in being an artist
is because you are compelled to be one. there is no other life
imaginable, no other process as exciting or enjoyable or challenging
or satisfying. if i die now, at least i know i lived as a painter !
as for money, there are easier ways to earn it, surely ?
