Better than thou eh?
Considering art is an extremely subjective field, good, bad or ugly will naturally vary person to person. Besides the ability to express what one thinks is irrelevant to the main question isn't it? suffice it to say.... beauty lies in the eye of the beholder.... not its market value which could easily be manipulated. :-)
Mr Girish, i think you are not able to understand the question properly. We all know that beauty lies in beholder's eye. That was my question.wht lies in your eyes. just give your own interepretation. thats the beauty of the question. its is to know everybody's interpretation of beauty.Hope to get a interpretation from you too.
Everyone is going to have something to say. maybe what you think is art, isn't someone's taste. It's just their opinion. If they are really being harsh and don't seem to have a reason...maybe they don't have any artistic challenge and are upset about it!
hehe, in my opinion there are only two possibilities: either they're right, or they're wrong.
If they're right, then you have the opportunity to learn something.
If they're wrong, why upset yourself over some fool's mistaken opinion?
the art that presents an intelligible thought and emotion in an aesthtically appealing and objective manner is something i believe is closer to ill say "palatible art" .
Art many times associated to the creative side of ... So, should a good art necessarily be creative? Or can art simply be a technique or just aesthetic of rendering ....?
I know this is replied as a question. It may trigger some thought in some.
I would define good art as something that evokes an emotion, a feeling in the viewer's heart, a thought in his/her's mind -one that initiates a dialogue, demands a response from the viewer.
Good art draws the viewer to turn back, arrests one's attention.
This definately is a very interesting question and a very important one .To be able to analyse an Art piece effectively is something that must be taught at school level , Unfortunately this is not taught in the Indian system.
In my opinion good art is one that is asthetically balanced (elements and principles of Art are considered), the use of medium is effective ,strikes an emotion in the observer and a piece that tells you a different story every time you look at it.
I look forward to reading what you have to say to this .
I would not categorize art into good and bad. Its just that sometimes some artworks touches me and moves me emotionally and that is what I like. But I would not term art that doesnt move me as BAD ART. Art is a subjective field, some people may be disgusted with Damian Hirst and his skulls, cow in formaldehyde etc, but there are others who think it beautifiul.
One man's poison is another man's medicine - art is perceived by people in different ways, so naming something bad art is just expressing one's personal preference for which Bad art is too strong a word.
ART is a - reflection of the world
ART is an - activity
ART is - cognition
ART is a - concept
ART is - prediction
ART is - information & communication
ART is - suggestion
ART is - enjoyment
ART is - educationThis three lettered word is used to describe all creative activity, the process of which leads to representation of individual or collective concepts and ideas in the form of visual or performed images, man-made objects or structuresTherefore all man-made activities and objects that are known and appreciated for their intrinsic aesthetic values can be seen as art. It is only the western perception that distinguishes between art and non-art.
Therefore aesthetics or special qualities in objects of art and images vary.
They vary because this sense of beauty is not only different for each person, it can also vary from region to region, culture to culture and time to time. SO WHAT IS GOOD ART THERE IS NO SCINTIFIC ,EASTHIETIC OR UNIVERSAL STATEMENT FOR IT
if art reflects the fine balance that exists naturally in the universe,it is good art.its hard to put a finger on what it is that creates that fine balance but if its there, it can be felt immediately by the viewer. the subject matter does not really matter. even grossly violent or shamelessly vulgar subjects can be arranged in pleasing colors and compositions. definitely, skill with the brush or whatever medium one uses, adds to the beauty. but to this question there will be as many answers as people viewing art.
work that evokes emotions may not necessarily be good art. its like writing down in points or in sms texting language something that could evoke love, rage or a laugh but you wouldn't call it fine literature.
The point is an SMS would evoke the same emotion in everyone who read it...but a work of art would get varied degrees of different emotions.Art is bought because it excites. The artist in a fit of creativity conveys his thoughts in his artwork...which is then open to interpretations by the viewer...as if they are trying to add to what the artist started....the arwork tries to get a response from the viewer.
