My work grows from my education in Ancient Indian art and aesthetics. I paint and write poetry blending elements of each into the other always exploring the deep forces which have created my culture and those which unite all of humanity.
I consider my work practices to be highly responsive to the environment they are produced in. My most recent solo show with a well known photographer explored the philosophical concept of The Seer and the Seen. I have traveled and worked collaboratively and spontaneously with a number of different artists across India.
My visual works are multi & monochromatic abstractions which explore space and time, reflection and self exploration. There is an attempt to create an inner world which communicates with viewers at different levels. On the basis of the monochromatic I reach its opposite---the multi-chromatic world. Remembering the environment of my childhood, the desert of Rajasthan, sand dunes, cacti, burning stones and the black sun, a source of limitless energy come together visually.
The act of image making is for me an experience that perhaps could be called ‘spiritual’. Just as an idol is inspired with “prana” ( sacred energy) before being worshipped, the painter too breathes “prana” into his work.
