Profile Information

About Me
Edvard Sasun (Avagian) is the representative of contemporary realistic art.
The artist was born in the Sharshik village of RA in a family of ‘teachers’ migrated from the lands of Sasun.
He started to draw and paint at an early age. He continued his education at physics- mathematics specialized high-school joined to Yerevan State University.
During 1972-1978 he studied at the economical cybernetic faculty of YSU.
During 1980-1987 he was educated in the Art Academy after Repin (St. Petersburg) at B. Ugarov’s studio.
The mathematical education has obviously effected on the compositional constructions and the colors spontaneous solutions created by the artist. This circumstance was first observed by the Art Academy professor- academic B. Ugarov, who taught the young artist Edvard Avagian. The artist’s searching is seen in different technical means of expressions in the canvases various in themes and genre (oil on canvas, watercolors, grafics, portraits, landscapes, still lives, voluminous compositions).
On the whole way of creative life Edvard Sasun has developed himself as a reflector of real nature. The philosophic center of his art is that God has created everyone & everything so perfect and multigrain. That’s the reason that Edvard Sasun tries to make the micro world of the real nature. The artist says that it has no aim to copy the nature; an artist should notice and show the hidden but admirable elements of the nature. And the main job of an artist is to help the people to see and to feel those invisible elements. Usually the art works of Edvard Sasun make a feeling of being in the nature.
The artist traveled a lot and created in several countries. He had opportunity to pass through his brush Armenian, Russian, Indian, Thai, and Malaysian natural and cultural peculiarities.
His settlement in Bangkok (1997-2005) gave him a good opportunity to recognize Thai people and the culture of Thailand and paint a lot of canvases in Thai spirit. The most part of his paintings are in the collections of people with different nationalities.
The marine paintings with the sceneries of Indian and Pacific oceans talk about the great love of the painter to the rich and mystic nature of the sea. The multiform clouds and the moon in the center are always present in Edvard Sasun’s seascapes. During those times he created series of landscapes, still lives and classical portraits filled with oriental warmth and with difficult color solutions.
After coming back to Yerevan in 2005, the artist evaluated his land with a new charm and recreated it in his series of paintings.

Thank you for the lovely paintings, I had started one but left it there to dry, then my mom brought it back and i have yet to finish it, so my photo will take some time to be put up. But yes Bali is very inspiring for an artist, I visited Romania and Estonia which rhymes with Armenia :-) and Copenhagen, i would love to visit Armenia as Im sure it has great beauty just like Romania. Would like to see some of your impressions of India. Paka, Mona
