WHAT I BELIVE IN ART
A painter speaks through Creations . ' I Believe In Nothing ' consistently refusing the idea of the "masterpiece" or "inspiration".
'The subject matter is secondary. The unifying thing is the surface,' I celebrate as an artist who renders the ridiculous, tragic and beautiful, ordinary while focussing on SOUL. The marks of a painter Embodied on canvas is only symbols and can represent more than one reality and truth. These series connection of paintings presented here is for self appraisal and an honest attempt has been taken to draw out the focus of my vision as growing artist and making a parallel connection of network.
I did start as a figurative painter and the years worked my way through to abstraction. My work still retains traces of figurative painting. Each small section that makes up the whole is individually bloated and abstracted. When put together in a grid-view, these sections act as a whole and unconscious patterns emerge. They become coherent. I like alternating between the abstract and representational creations.
Producing a work involves split-second decision making. However, there is considerable contemplation in constructions. As a mixed-media artist, my works; paintings get simultaneously lieing. Somewhere in paintings and drawing; i am biased in creating an aesthetic of mixing and process: an interchange between something very constructional and organic. Processes and inventions paramount in my work.
In my figurative paintings, Vig-Celebration, lady with gunghat and Missing Guys the human figure is at the centre. Celebration draws its inspiration from the folk tradition of our very own INDIA. I have tried to incorporate the oriental sensuous reminiscent of Amrita Shergil. The bull fight is based on the famous Spanish sport, depicting man and animal being engaged in a struggle of strength. The missing guys is to commemorate the memories of my friends who have been outside of india. Moving on to abstract paintings, my prime influence is new media art. I have tried to dabble the landscape painting in the abstract form.
In my works, oil and acrylic Boasts Of my Expression. In my abstract paintings materials like mat have been used to create textures, layering and highlighting methods are encapsulated. An attempt at manipulating materials is made to realize the full potential of each material being used. The preoccupation with a heavily labored process celebrates the handmade and enjoys of not being specific to any art history context.
As an artist in the throes of growing and averting, I believe in making a work of art accessible rather than exclusive……….
